Description

Wolf CMS versions through 0.8.3.1 have an authorization bypass vulnerability in the BackupRestoreController. This flaw is due to a PHP operator precedence error in the permission check expression, allowing authenticated non-administrative users to access backup functionality. Exploitation enables these users to create, download, and restore backups without administrative privileges.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-67207 describes an authorization bypass vulnerability in Wolf CMS up to version 0.8.3.1. The vulnerability arises from a PHP operator precedence flaw in the BackupRestoreController's permission check, which incorrectly evaluates access control expressions. As a result, authenticated users without administrative rights can perform backup-related actions that should be restricted, including creating, downloading, and restoring backups. This bypass compromises the intended access control mechanisms of the CMS.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows authenticated users with non-administrative privileges to bypass authorization controls and access sensitive backup functionality. This can lead to unauthorized creation, download, and restoration of backups, potentially exposing sensitive data or enabling unauthorized system modifications. The flaw undermines the integrity of access control within the CMS.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to authenticated users and monitor for unusual backup activity. Avoid granting unnecessary permissions to non-administrative users. Follow vendor updates closely for an official fix.
