Description

YesWiki versions before 4.6.7 have a session fixation vulnerability where the login process does not regenerate the PHP session ID. This flaw allows attackers who can set or obtain a victim's pre-authentication session cookie to hijack the victim's authenticated session and access private content with their privileges.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in YesWiki prior to version 4.6.7 is a session fixation issue caused by the failure to regenerate the PHP session ID upon login. An attacker who can set or learn a victim's pre-authentication YesWiki-* session cookie can reuse this cookie after the victim logs in, thereby hijacking the authenticated session. This enables unauthorized access to private content and actions performed with the victim's privileges. The CVSS 3.1 score is 6.8 (High), reflecting network attack vector, high complexity, no privileges required, user interaction required, unchanged scope, and high confidentiality and integrity impact.

Potential Impact

Attackers can hijack authenticated sessions by reusing a victim's session cookie, gaining unauthorized access to private content and performing actions with the victim's privileges. This compromises confidentiality and integrity but does not affect availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in YesWiki version 4.6.7 and later, which addresses the session fixation vulnerability by regenerating the PHP session ID upon login. Users should upgrade to version 4.6.7 or later to remediate this issue.
