Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in YesWiki prior to version 4.6.7 exists in the comments API's editComment route. Authenticated low-privilege users can supply their own page as the pagetag field in a POST request to the api/comments endpoint, bypassing per-page write ACLs. This allows them to overwrite arbitrary pages or comments and reparent existing pages or comments, effectively circumventing intended authorization restrictions.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can lead to unauthorized modification of content within the YesWiki platform. Attackers with low privileges can overwrite pages or comments they should not have access to, potentially altering or defacing content. The integrity of the wiki content is compromised, though confidentiality is not directly impacted. Availability impact is low.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in YesWiki version 4.6.7. Users should upgrade to version 4.6.7 or later to remediate this authorization bypass vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary as the issue is resolved by the official patch.
