Zabbix Server and Proxy accept the active agent heartbeat message regardless of the configured PSK or certificate authentication. (CVE-2026-59786)
Description
Zabbix Server and Proxy accept active agent heartbeat messages without enforcing the configured PSK or certificate authentication. This allows an attacker with access to the Zabbix trapper port to falsely report an arbitrary host as available, compromising data integrity.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-59786 describes a vulnerability in Zabbix Server and Proxy where the active agent heartbeat message is accepted regardless of the configured pre-shared key (PSK) or certificate authentication. This flaw permits an attacker who can access the Zabbix trapper port to spoof active agent heartbeats, causing the system to incorrectly mark hosts as available. The issue results in a loss of integrity of monitoring data but does not affect confidentiality or availability directly.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability impacts the integrity of host availability data reported by Zabbix Server and Proxy. An attacker with network access to the trapper port can cause false positive host availability reports, misleading monitoring and potentially masking real host outages or issues. There is no indication of impact on confidentiality or availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict network access to the Zabbix trapper port to trusted sources only to reduce the risk of unauthorized heartbeat message injection.
