Description

Znuny versions through 7.3.6 have a vulnerability in the ticket search functionality where user input is directly concatenated into SQL queries without proper validation. This allows attackers to perform SQL injection via the ContentSearch parameter, potentially leading to unauthorized data access, modification, or denial of service.

Technical Analysis

Znuny through version 7.3.6 constructs SQL queries for ticket searches by directly concatenating the ContentSearch parameter, which is user-supplied, into the query string without validation or parameterization. Although the parameter is expected to be 'AND' or 'OR', the lack of sanitization enables attackers to inject arbitrary SQL commands. This vulnerability affects the Kernel::System::Ticket::TicketSearch and Kernel::System::Ticket::ArticleSearchIndex::DB components, leading to risks such as data theft, data modification, or denial of service.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can allow an attacker with low privileges to execute arbitrary SQL commands on the database. This can result in unauthorized disclosure of sensitive data, unauthorized modification or deletion of data, and potential denial of service conditions affecting the availability of the ticketing system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, avoid exposing the vulnerable functionality to untrusted users or implement input validation and parameterized queries as a temporary mitigation.
