CISA warns of another cPanel plugin flaw exploited in attacksCVE-2026-54420
0

CVE-2026-54420 is an actively exploited vulnerability in the LiteSpeed cPanel user-end plugin that allows privilege escalation on shared hosting servers. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has mandated U.S. federal agencies to secure their systems within three days due to the risk posed by this flaw. The vulnerability arises from a UNIX symlink following weakness affecting all user-end plugin versions prior to 2.4.8. Attackers with FTP or web shell access can escalate privileges to root, posing significant risks to affected systems. LiteSpeed has released urgent security updates to address this issue and recommends users update to version 2.4.8 or later. CISA has added this vulnerability to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities Catalog and issued Binding Operational Directive 26-04 to enforce patching requirements. Users are advised to check logs for signs of exploitation and assess any damage caused.
