A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPv6 output processing (ip6_output) was resolved by adopting Read-Copy-Update (RCU) mechanisms. This fix prevents potential memory safety issues by ensuring proper synchronization when accessing network device structures. The vulnerability was addressed by removing redundant RCU lock pairs and using dst_dev_rcu() safely. The issue is rated high severity due to its potential impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: ipv6: use RCU in ip6_output() Use RCU in ip6_output() in order to use dst_dev_rcu() to prevent possible UAF. We can remove rcu_read_lock()/rcu_read_unlock() pairs from ip6_finish_output2().
