A critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel's f2fs filesystem was resolved by adding a sanity check in f2fs_alloc_nid() to detect potential corruption in the free_nid_list. The issue involved on-disk footer.ino and footer.nid being identical and out-of-range, which could lead to corrupted node IDs. This vulnerability has been addressed in the Linux kernel source code.
