A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Btrfs file system was resolved that involved improper freeing of reserved quota group data during fallback from inline extent creation when encountering a -ENOSPC error. This flaw could lead to a denial of service by causing system instability or crashes. The issue affects multiple Ubuntu Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 and related builds. A patch is available and should be applied via standard system updates followed by a reboot. The update requires recompilation of third-party kernel modules due to an ABI change. No known exploits are reported in the wild.
