vm2 versions before 3.12.2 have a vulnerability where the Buffer backing-store ownership invariant is not enforced for Buffers returned from host builtin modules. Specifically, when Node's zlib module is exposed to untrusted code via NodeVM's builtin allowlist, zlib.deflateSync can return a Buffer backed by a shared small-buffer pool. This allows untrusted guest code to create a view that can read and modify memory belonging to unrelated host buffers, potentially disclosing and corrupting host memory across the sandbox boundary.
