A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's irqchip/sifive-plic component caused frozen interrupts due to the PLIC ignoring interrupt completion messages for disabled interrupts. This was because the PLIC does not verify if the completion ID matches the last claim ID for the target, silently ignoring completion messages for interrupts that are disabled but still being handled. The issue was fixed by enabling the interrupt before sending the completion message if it was disabled. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 and related builds. A patch is available and included in recent Linux kernel updates.
