A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem incorrectly allowed Transparent Huge Pages (THP) for files on anonymous inodes, such as guest_memfd and secretmem. This flaw could enable the creation of large folios in the page cache via THP collapse, which was unintended for these pseudo-filesystem inodes. The issue was addressed by excluding anonymous inodes from THP eligibility. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to specific 6.8.x releases. A patch is available and should be applied via standard system updates, which require a reboot and recompilation of third-party kernel modules due to ABI changes.
