0 OpenClaw CLI's gateway config mutation guard used a denylist to protect sensitive configuration paths, but the growing config schema outpaced this denylist, allowing unsafe model-driven config writes. This vulnerability enables a compromised or prompt-injected model with access to the owner-only gateway tool to persist unsafe configuration changes crossing security boundaries. These changes could affect command execution, network behavior, credentials, telemetry, and operator policies, and survive restarts. The issue affects openclaw versions from 2026.1.29 up to but not including 2026.4.23. The vulnerability is rated high severity with a CVSS score of 8.8. A fix is available in version 2026.4.23, which replaces the denylist with a fail-closed allowlist restricting config changes to narrow, safe paths.
