A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AMDGPU driver involves improper memory deallocation in the function amdgpu_gmc_get_nps_memranges(). The function amdgpu_discovery_get_nps_info() allocates memory using kvcalloc(), which may internally use vmalloc() for large allocations. The vulnerability arises because kfree() is incorrectly used to free this memory, which can cause memory corruption. The correct function kvfree() should be used to safely free both kmalloc and vmalloc allocations. This issue was identified through static analysis and code review and has been resolved in the Linux kernel.
