GHSA-2gf8-q9rr-jq3h: zebrad has persistent on-disk corruption of Sapling/Orchard subtree roots after chain fork via pop_tipCVE-2026-52733
0

A vulnerability in zebrad up to and including v4.4.1 causes persistent on-disk corruption of Sapling and Orchard subtree root data after chain forks via the pop_tip method. This corruption is written to RocksDB and survives node restarts, affecting wallet synchronization tools like lightwalletd. The issue arises because pop_tip does not clean up stale subtree root data properly, unlike pop_root. The problem does not affect consensus validation but can cause incorrect wallet states. Fixed in zebrad 4.5.0 and zebra-state 7.0.0.
