A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's SMC (Shared Memory Communications) subsystem could cause a NULL pointer dereference leading to a kernel crash when the smc_msg_event tracepoint is enabled and used with SMC-D sockets. This issue has been resolved in updated Linux kernel versions. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5.5 and does not impact confidentiality or integrity but causes a denial of service via system crash. Multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 7.0.0-28.28 and related builds are affected. A patch is available and users are advised to update to the fixed kernel versions.
