A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's vfio/pci subsystem was fixed by ensuring DMA buffer cleanup occurs before disabling the function during device shutdown. This prevents a race condition where device memory BARs could be accessed after the function is disabled but before DMA buffers are revoked, potentially allowing unauthorized access to freed resources. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to specific 7.0.0 releases. A patch is available and included in Ubuntu kernel updates requiring a system reboot and recompilation of third-party kernel modules.
