A timing side-channel vulnerability exists in the generic elliptic-curve scalar multiplication used for ECDSA and SM2 signature operations on curves without dedicated constant-time implementations. This leak of secret nonce information through timing variations can potentially allow an attacker to recover the private key after many signature observations. The issue primarily affects curves like brainpoolP384r1, while NIST curves P-256, P-384, and P-521 with dedicated constant-time implementations are not impacted. The vulnerability has a low severity score and does not affect FIPS modules.
