Ansible jailexec: Ansible FreeBSD Jail Connection Plugin: Jail escape via symlink following in put_file (host-side root mv) (CVE-2026-55074)CVE-2026-55074
0

Ansible jailexec connection plugin versions prior to 2.0.0 contain a vulnerability in the put_file operation that allows a jail escape via symlink following. The plugin runs mkdir and mv commands as root on the host, following symbolic links that can redirect writes outside the jail. An attacker with the ability to create symlinks inside the jail can cause arbitrary root-owned writes on the host, potentially leading to full host compromise. This issue is fixed in version 2.0.0 by performing file operations inside the jail environment, preventing symlink traversal to the host.
