The issue involved netfs_write_single() and afs_single_writepages() functions improperly handling skipped writes due to lock contention and WB_SYNC_NONE, potentially causing the inode to be incorrectly marked. This flaw is largely theoretical for directories because of serialization via a validation lock in the affected code path.
