A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem was resolved by adding a count limit to the page_ext_iter_next iterator function to prevent invalid page frame number (PFN) access. The issue arises because the page_ext iteration API did not validate whether the PFN still belonged to a valid memory section during iteration, potentially causing a NULL pointer dereference during memory hotplug operations. This could lead to kernel crashes when dynamically adding memory. The fix enforces iteration boundaries inside the iterator functions to prevent out-of-range access.
