A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFSv4 implementation allowed an open() call with O_TRUNC flag to bypass proper write permission checks. This occurs because the local permission mask did not include write permission when truncation was requested, contrary to POSIX requirements. The issue has been resolved by including write permission in the mask when O_TRUNC is set, ensuring the open fails with EACCES if write access is not authorized.
