The issue arises because udf_load_vat() does not properly validate the VAT header length against the VAT inode size, allowing an attacker-controlled value to cause an underflow and subsequent out-of-bounds memory access. The vulnerability has been resolved by rejecting VAT headers that do not leave room for at least one entry within the VAT inode.
