In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: block: skip sync_blockdev() on surprise removal in bdev_mark_dead()… (CVE-2026-64326)CVE-2026-64326
0

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's block device handling was resolved where the function bdev_mark_dead() incorrectly called sync_blockdev() during surprise device removal, causing potential indefinite hangs. This occurs because the surprise removal flag was not properly checked, leading to blocking on writeback operations that cannot complete. The fix ensures sync_blockdev() is skipped on surprise removal, matching existing filesystem behavior and preventing the hang. This issue was discovered via fuzz testing with Syzkaller and FEMU.
