A vulnerability in the Linux kernel scheduler related to real-time (RT) task migration has been resolved. The issue involves the RT_PUSH_IPI mechanism, which was designed to reduce latency in PREEMPT_RT configurations but caused live lock conditions in non-PREEMPT_RT systems under heavy networking load. This live lock occurs when softirqs and RT task scheduling interact, causing excessive inter-processor interrupts (IPIs) and preventing CPUs from scheduling tasks properly. The fix makes RT_PUSH_IPI default off for non-PREEMPT_RT kernels to avoid this problem.
