The flaw occurs when a deferred file_lock is freed during SMB2_CLOSE processing but later accessed again during SMB2_CANCEL, leading to a use-after-free condition. This can cause kernel memory corruption and potential crashes. The issue affects the handling of asynchronous work states in ksmbd, specifically when transitioning between CLOSED and CANCELLED states. The vulnerability was confirmed with Kernel Address Sanitizer (KASAN) on mainline kernel 7.1-rc7. No CVSS score is available for this vulnerability.
