Next.js: Denial of Service in the Image Optimization API using SVGs (CVE-2026-64644)CVE-2026-64644 0 A denial of service vulnerability exists in Next.js's Image Optimization API when self-hosted with the default image loader and configured to optimize remote images. Malicious SVG images can cause CPU exhaustion on the /_next/image endpoints. This affects only setups using config.images.remotePatterns and not those using unoptimized images, custom loaders, or Vercel hosting. A workaround is available by enabling config.experimental.imgOptSkipMetadata to skip expensive metadata processing.
