In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: fs/proc/task_mmu: fix hugetlb self-deadlock in pagemap_scan_pte_hole() A… (CVE-2026-72174)CVE-2026-72174 0 A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's handling of hugetlb VMAs in the pagemap_scan_pte_hole() function could cause a self-deadlock when a PAGEMAP_SCAN ioctl requests PM_SCAN_WP_MATCHING. The issue arises because the kernel attempts to take a write lock on a VMA while already holding a read lock, causing the calling thread to hang unkillably. The fix involves changing the handling of unpopulated hugetlb page table entries to avoid taking the write lock, preventing the deadlock.
