A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS driver was fixed to prevent improper handling of resident attributes during mount. The issue involved a WARN_ON() warning that did not stop execution when a resident attribute was encountered where a non-resident attribute was expected, potentially causing incorrect memory access. The fix replaces the warning with an error return, causing the crafted NTFS image to be rejected during mount instead of triggering a kernel warning.
