A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ntfs3 driver allows a crafted NTFS3 disk image to trigger an infinite loop during mount time. This causes the mounting thread to hang and can lead to a soft-lockup panic on multi-CPU systems. The issue arises from an unbounded iteration over a free-entry linked list in the RESTART_TABLE structure, which can be exploited by a self-referential or cyclic free chain in the disk image. The vulnerability is triggered during automatic USB mount or manual mount operations requiring CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges. A patch has been applied to limit the iteration count based on the used entries, preventing the infinite loop and rejecting malformed tables.
