A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS driver was resolved that involved improper validation of attribute values during lookup operations. Specifically, variable-length resident $FILE_NAME attributes could be crafted to cause out-of-bounds reads by setting inconsistent length fields. This flaw could lead to slab-out-of-bounds reads during NTFS file system operations. The fix introduces a shared attribute value validator to ensure resident and non-resident attributes are properly checked before use.
