A heap overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ASoC SOF ipc3-control interface was identified and resolved. The flaw involved incorrect bounds checking in the bytes_ext put/get functions, allowing unprivileged userspace to write beyond the allocated heap buffer via the ALSA TLV kcontrol interface. This could also lead to over-reading adjacent heap data. The issue was fixed by correcting the bounds checks to account for the actual data offset and fixing an error-path restore that caused the overflow.
