The flaw involved rl_kref serving dual lifetimes through a single reference count, leading to premature freeing of requests while DMA operations might still be ongoing. The fix decouples the request recycling from RPC completion by separating reference counts for the RPC layer and the Send-side, ensuring requests are only freed after both references are released. This prevents use-after-free conditions during DMA reads. The patch also addresses teardown ordering hazards on the backchannel path to prevent resource leaks.
