In the Linux kernel, the following vulnerability has been resolved: usb: host: max3421: Fix shift-out-of-bounds in max3421_hub_control() The… (CVE-2026-72483)CVE-2026-72483 0 A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's max3421 USB host driver was fixed. The function max3421_hub_control() improperly handles USB hub class requests by performing a left shift operation without validating the shift amount, leading to shift-out-of-bounds undefined behavior. This can cause arbitrary bit corruption of the port_status variable, potentially bypassing internal state checks and confusing hub status. The issue affects userspace tasks with access to the root hub that issue crafted USBDEVFS_CONTROL ioctl requests with a wValue parameter of 32 or greater. The fix involves rejecting requests with invalid shift values before performing the shift. Join the discussion | GCVE Database | 08/15/2026, 06:32:26 UTC Added: 08/15/2026, 15:53:17 UTC |
