A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's fbdev sm501fb driver involved buffer errors in the Open Firmware (OF) binding code. The flaw includes use-after-free, buffer overrun, and memory leak issues related to handling frame buffer mode and EDID data. These errors occur when info->edid_data is improperly freed or used after being freed, and when the mode string from OF is copied without length checks. The vulnerability has been resolved by correcting memory management and string handling in the driver code.
