0

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem was resolved involving the __filemap_add_folio() function. The issue occurred in a loop where an index used for inserting memory folios could become incorrect after retrying an allocation, potentially causing memory corruption or crashes. The fix ensures the index is correctly restored before retrying, preventing insertion at an incorrect location. This vulnerability caused rare illegal instruction and segmentation faults in production and was detected by debug checks.
