A vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA usx2y driver allowed unbounded offset values in the hwdep mmap fault handler, enabling a process with access to the hwdep node to gain read-write access to arbitrary kernel memory pages. This was due to the snd_us428ctls_vm_fault() function not properly bounding the page offset, resulting in potential kernel memory corruption or crashes. The issue was resolved by adding bounds checks on the offset to prevent access outside the allocated shared memory page.
