A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's MCTP networking component was resolved. The issue involved improper reference handling of the route device in the mctp_route_lookup() function, allowing an unprivileged local user to trigger a use-after-free condition. This vulnerability reintroduces a class of flaw previously addressed in CVE-2023-3439. The flaw occurs because the source address lookup was performed before the destination device reference was properly taken, leading to potential memory corruption.
