A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's IPMI IPMB driver was resolved by validating the write message length in the ipmb_write() function. The function previously read message fields before validating the length byte, which could lead to reading uninitialized stack bytes if the write was zero or short. Additionally, a length smaller than the SMBus header could cause an underflow in the block write length. The fix requires a non-empty buffer and a minimum IPMB request length, and ensures the length byte plus payload is validated before parsing the message.
