A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's cxl/mce component related to the Machine Check Exception (MCE) notifier has been resolved. The issue involved lifetime management problems causing NULL dereferences and use-after-free conditions in the MCE handler. The notifier was incorrectly registered per memory device instead of per region, leading to these memory safety issues. The fix moves the notifier registration to be per-region, specifically for regions with extended linear cache. This correction eliminates the unsafe lifetime dependencies and removes dead code associated with the prior implementation.
