A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID driver for MCP2221 devices was resolved. The function mcp2221_raw_event() did not validate the size of incoming HID reports, allowing a malicious USB device to send a crafted report that causes out-of-bounds memory reads. This could lead to leakage of uninitialized kernel memory to userspace via the I2C/SMBus read path. The fix involved adding size validation checks before copying data from the report.
