A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's HID driver for the MCP2221 device was resolved. The issue occurs because a buffer pointer (rxbuf) used during I2C/SMBus transfers is not cleared after the transfer completes or times out, leading to a dangling pointer. This can cause device data to be copied into freed memory, resulting in a write use-after-free condition.
