A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel audit subsystem was resolved. The issue involved improper handling of tree references during fsnotify rule autoremove in audit_del_rule(), which could lead to freeing a tree still referenced by other rules. This could cause a later dereference of freed memory when comparing rules. The fix moved the release of temporary tree references to the appropriate caller to prevent premature freeing.
