A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFS server (nfsd) was resolved involving a reference count leak when an error occurs in the follow_down() function within nfsd_cross_mnt(). The flaw causes path references to not be released properly on certain error paths, leading to inflated mount and dentry counts. This can block unmount operations and pin dentries in memory. The issue is reachable by any authenticated NFS client via specific NFS operations. The fix involves ensuring that path references are released on all error returns from follow_down().
