A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFS server (NFSD) was resolved involving a race condition in permission checks for truncating files. The issue arises because nfsd_setattr() checks truncate permission based on an unlocked read of the file size, creating a time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) window. This allows a concurrent append to extend an append-only file before the locked permission check and truncation occur, potentially bypassing append-only restrictions.
