A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's memory management subsystem related to swap handling has been resolved. The flaw involves improper freeing of hibernation slots in the swap cache, which can lead to silent memory corruption, process crashes, or data instability in unrelated userspace applications, particularly during hibernation image preparation. The issue arises because a hibernation slot is freed incorrectly even when a folio is still cached, causing the folio to become unreachable and potentially corrupting swap table entries.
