A critical vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NFSv4.1 implementation involves uninitialized memory usage in the handling of referring call lists during callback sequence decoding. This flaw can lead to use-after-free or double-free conditions due to stale memory being passed to the kernel's free function. The issue arises because the referring call lists are allocated without zero-initialization, leaving pointers uninitialized when the list is valid but empty. This vulnerability has been resolved by changing the allocation method to zero-initialize these lists, preventing the use of stale pointers.
