A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's platform/x86 hp-bioscfg component involves improper bounds checking in the password encoding parser. This flaw allows a malformed ACPI package to cause out-of-bounds reads, potentially leading to high impact on confidentiality and availability. The issue arises because the parser does not sufficiently verify that the combined index used to access password encoding strings is within the valid range. A fix has been implemented to add proper bounds checking before accessing the array.
