A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem was resolved by improving validation of external extended attribute (xattr) entries when reading metadata. The flaw involved insufficient bounds checking of xattr block headers and entry offsets, which could lead to out-of-range memory access and use-after-free errors during listxattr() or getxattr() operations. This vulnerability was identified and fixed by adding specific validators for non-indexed and indexed xattr blocks to reject corrupted metadata before it is processed.
