A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's dm-pcache component allowed out-of-bounds read and write operations due to improper validation of segment IDs from persistent memory cache metadata. This flaw could be exploited by an attacker with CAP_SYS_ADMIN privileges who supplies a malicious cache device, potentially leading to memory corruption. The issue has been resolved by adding validation checks to reject out-of-range segment IDs, preventing invalid memory accesses.
